OIL SEALS

What is a skeleton oil seal?

The skeleton oil seal is a typical representative of oil seals, usually referred to as the oil seal refers to the skeleton oil seal. The skeleton oil seal is a sealing device that closes the lubrication or liquid grease on the rotary shaft. The function of the oil seal is to isolate the parts that need lubrication in the transmission parts from the output parts to prevent the lubricant from leaking.

The skeleton oil seal usually consists of the outer ring, inner ring, sealing lip, metal skeleton spring and other parts, and the sealing body is divided into the bottom, waist skeleton oil seal construction diagram, edge and sealing lip according to different positions.

Sealing principle of skeleton oil seal

Due to an oil film controlled by the oil seal edge between the oil seal and the shaft, this oil film has the characteristic of fluid lubrication.
Under the action of the skeleton oil seal, the stiffness of the oil film is just enough to make the oil film and air contact end to form a crescent surface, preventing the leakage of the working medium to realize the sealing of the rotary shaft. The sealing ability of the oil seal mainly depends on the thickness of the oil film on the sealing surface. If the thickness is too large, the oil seal leaks; if the thickness is too small, dry friction may occur, causing wear of the oil seal and the shaft; if there is no oil film between the sealing lip and the shaft, it is easy to cause heat and wear.

Type of skeleton oil seal

Various types of skeleton oil seals are suitable for different occasions, applications and working environments. The following are mainly categorized into four types:

Single-lip Simmerring Oil Seal
Single-lip Simmerring Oil Seal
Double-lip Simmerring Oil Seal
Double-lip Simmerring Oil Seal

Single-lip Simmerring Oil Seal

Single Lip Simmerring Oil Seal has a relatively simple structure and low cost. It is mainly used to prevent oil leakage with a single sealing lip, usually used in low-speed and low-pressure application scenarios. Single lip skeleton oil seal is one of the most widely used skeleton oil seals, and its advantages are that it is easy to install, occupies little space, and has good dust and oil sealing. Based on the basic form, there are also various types, such as coil spring type, deformation spring type and compression spring type;

Double-lip Simmerring Oil Seal

Double Lip Simmerring has two sealing lips, providing better sealing performance and effectively preventing impurities such as liquid and dust from entering mechanical equipment. It suits some demanding working environments, such as high speed and pressure. Double-lip Simmerring has more sealing performance than single-lip Simmerring, but due to the particular structure form, it will occupy more space. The advantage of double-lip Simmering is better dust and oil resistance, more suitable for use in long-term operation and dusty environments;

V Type Simmerring Oil Seal

A V-shaped skeleton oil seal is also known as an “oblique mouth oil seal.” Its oil sealing performance is good and especially suitable for use in high-speed shaft rotation. The V-shaped structure prevents dust, water and other impurities from entering and also dramatically reduces seal damage and noise;

X Type Simmerring Oil Seal

An X-type skeleton oil seal is also an oil sealing solution. Its structure uses a multi-layer structure nested together, effectively solving the problem of single-lip and double-lip skeleton oil seals that are easy to slip off under specific conditions. The skeleton oil seal has excellent sealing and wear-resistant performance and is suitable for long-term machinery and equipment operation.

There are many types of Simmerring oil seals, and these different types of Simmerring oil seals are suitable for various mechanical sealing needs according to their structure and application environments. To ensure mechanical equipment’s long and efficient operation, the correct selection and use of Simmerring oil seals is particularly important. For special applications, such as the food industry, medical equipment, etc., there may be special-purpose customized oil seals whose materials and design must comply with the relevant standards and regulations.
