Install Hydraulic Seals

Installing hydraulic cylinder seals is very important; it directly affects the performance and life of the hydraulic system. The correct seal installation method can ensure that the seals can effectively prevent hydraulic oil leakage and reduce friction and damage. You will learn hyd seals installation methods and precautions from this article.

 Install Hydraulic Seals

Step 1: Seal selection

Before the hydraulic cylinder seal installation, first of all, you need to select the appropriate hydraulic seals correctly. The selection of seals needs to be based on the working conditions (working medium, pressure, temperature, etc.) and requirements of the hydraulic system, selecting the appropriate sealing material (PTFE material, PU material, NBR material, FKM material, etc.) and type of sealing structure. Common hydraulic cylinder seals include 0-ring, piston seal, piston rod seal, dust seal, gasket, guide ring and so on.

Step 2: Check the hydraulic seals

Hydraulic seals must be inspected before installation to ensure they are free from defects, cracks or deterioration.

Step 3: Cleaning the seals

Before installation, it is essential to ensure that the seals and sealing surfaces are clean. Any dirt, dust or oil will cause seal failure. Clean the seals and sealing surfaces with a cleaning agent and dry them with a clean paper towel, making sure they are clean and smooth to avoid impurities and burrs on the seals.

Step 4: Lubricate the seals

Lubrication is essential before installing seals. Lubrication reduces seal friction and wear and extends seal life. Take care to select a lubricant that is compatible with the seal material and lubricate by the lubricant requirements.

Step 5: Install hydraulic seals

Place the hydraulic seals in the correct position, push them into the cylinder in the proper direction, do not install the reverse, and make sure that the seals and the cylinder sealing groove fit perfectly. Pay attention to the force and angle during installation to avoid damaging the seals. If you need hydraulic seal installation tool to assist with the installation, contact the TYS team to get.

Step 6: Check the system sealing

The entire hydraulic system needs to be inspected after installation to ensure no leaks.

Seals wear and deteriorate after long-term use, causing them to lose their sealing performance. Regular inspection of seals for wear and ageing and replacement of seals are important measures to ensure the normal operation of the hydraulic system. Check the surface of the seal for cracks, scratches, hardening and other phenomena. If the seal is found to have problems, it should be replaced in time.
